Perfume vs Cologne: What Is the Difference?

The words perfume and cologne are often used interchangeably, but they can have different meanings.
Traditionally, Eau de Cologne refers to a fragrance concentration that is lighter than Eau de Parfum or
Parfum.
In everyday conversation, especially in men’s fragrance marketing, “cologne” is sometimes used as a
general term for men’s fragrance. However, technically, fragrance terminology is more closely related to
concentration and formulation than gender.
Perfume, Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette, and Eau de Cologne can all have different concentrations
and performance characteristics.
Rather than choosing a fragrance simply because it is called perfume or cologne, look at its fragrance
concentration, ingredients, scent profile, and expected performance.
Understanding these terms can help you make better decisions when shopping for fragrance online or
in stores.
The most important factor is still whether the fragrance suits your personal style and preferences.
